gmp – von Gerkan, Marg und Partners – was founded in 1965 by Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg. The practice does not treat architecture as a question of style: a building should fulfil its function, be soundly constructed, use appropriate materials and respond to its place. Guiding principles are simplicity, unity in diversity, structural order and distinctiveness.
The façade of Prinz 17 takes its cue from traditional Kreuzberg commercial courtyards: a clear structure, a readable load-bearing frame, large window openings. Outside, precast concrete and anodised aluminium windows define the appearance; inside, exposed concrete and raw steel.
A building, timeless in form, made of materials that age with dignity.
The Building
Three buildings with a total gross floor area of just under 8,000 m²: Buildings I and II with offices, Building III as a business hotel. Office tenants have a shared terrace with seating and planting islands as well as two landscaped courtyards. Fukagawa Ramen restaurant is on the ground floor. The business hotel with 30 rooms for short and longer stays allows office tenants to accommodate business partners and staff on site.
